Tsukiji has been the center of Tokyo's seafood trade for nearly a century. While the inner wholesale market relocated to Toyosu in 2018, the Tsukiji Outer Market remains very much alive — a dense, fragrant maze of stalls selling some of the freshest fish, shellfish, and street food in all of Japan.
A morning here is a full sensory experience. The smell of grilled scallops and sea urchin, the sound of vendors calling out to customers, the sight of glistening tuna, and the taste of tamagoyaki still warm from the pan. It's chaotic and beautiful in equal measure — and far easier to navigate with a guide who knows exactly which stalls are worth stopping at.
Your guide will introduce you to the seasonal rhythm of the market, explain the difference between the many varieties of sushi-grade fish on display, and take you to the spots that locals return to again and again. This is food tourism at its most authentic.
